Fauna Marin Balling Light Carbonate-Mix is a pure special salt for carbonate supply with the Balling Light method in saltwater aquariums.
The importance of alkalinity / carbonate hardness in saltwater aquariums
Alkalinity is an indefinite sum parameter that is very important for reef aquariums. An alkalinity test ("carbonate hardness test", e.g. Fauna Marin Aquahome Test KH) should be part of the basic equipment. Carbonate hardness and alkalinity are fundamentally different. However, we use the common term carbonate hardness (KH/dKH).
Laboratory reports also refer to this as acid-binding capacity. This indicates how much acid the water can bind, i.e., buffer. The carbonate hardness is then calculated from this value. This value alone is not conclusive, but in conjunction with salinity, calcium, and magnesium, it controls the calcium supply of the aquarium.
